Tomato Soup Scented With Cumin

This variation on your classic tomato soup is warmed by the taste of cumin and will impress your guests. Serves 2.


  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups canned tomatoes, with juice
  • 2 tbsp sugar, or to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • salt and pepper to taste

To Serve:

  • 1 tbsp cream
  • Toasted bread sticks


In a food processor, blend together the tomatoes along with the juice from the can and set aside.

In a saucepan, heat the oil, add cumin seed and garlic Рsaut̩ till lightly browned and fragrant.

Add blended tomatoes, water and seasoning – simmer for 15 minutes.

Serve hot or cold with fresh cream and toasted bread stick.
